Blokus: A Minute to Learn, A Lifetime to Master
Blokus might be the easiest game to teach others. Players take turns placing their Tetris-like pieces on the gameboard. The only rule is that your pieces have to touch, but they can only touch at the corners. The first player to place the most, or all, of his or her pieces on the game board wins the game.
The beauty of this game is that you can play right out of the box. Even the youngest family members will grasp the rules, and yet the game offers a challenge to every player. Every game is different from the last, so your family will not outgrow this game anytime soon!
Do you want to know an added bonus? Blokus has a one-player option, which is perfect for quiet time!
Recommended for: Ages 8 and up
Players: 1-4 players
If you love Blokus, you’ll love:
Qwirkle is like a mash-up of Scrabble, Othello, and dominoes. The beauty of Qwirkle is that it can be played on any flat surface- there is no game board. My family has played at restaurants, at the beach, on our back patio, and on the playroom floor!
Spot It! has always been a huge hit over here, among my I Spy lovers! The game is easy to learn, fun to play, and includes several versions of play so that children of all ages can enjoy the game. Best of all? It fits in your purse and it a perfect waiting room or restaurant distraction!
Q-Bitz is a super-fun and fast-paced game for the puzzle lovers out there. Be the first to recreate your abstract image, and challenge yourself to recall it from memory!
